Working from Home - is it for you?
Almost all of us will have come across home working over the last few years (with exceptions for those whose jobs are impossible to do remotely).
It is something that, whilst not invented by/for the pandemic, has certainly flourished in the wake of Covid. What used to be a seldom offered perk is now something in which we are all very experienced. A distant memory are the days when a handful of employers would have ‘Work from home Fridays’ and the rest of us would look on in envy.
Happy Birthday to Us!
Global Pathways turned seven years old this Monday! The company was conceived and named in May 2015 but was formally incorporated on 1st August that same year. So has been a real entity for the last seven years!
We honoured the day by adopting Scotland’s public holiday and making it our own. A bonus day off in recognition of the fact we made it this far.
What a journey we have been on. And when I say ‘We’ I mainly mean the business and I – but also the team we have collected along the way.
Australia Here I Come! (Overcoming the winter blues)
The last few years have been tough for everyone.
I have had my share of the storm – not just in the form of the pandemic, but also in the forms of grief, of financial struggle, of health issues and the stress of running a business through unprecedented times.
Sometimes we have to do things for ourselves. To treat ourselves. To nourish our minds and our souls.
Advice to my Younger Self
Sometimes I think that it is a miracle I have made it this far in life.
I am comfortably into my mid-40s and very happy with where I am in my journey and my direction of travel, personally and professionally.
When I look back at my youth, at the fun I had, the adventures and misadventures, the places I ended up – on purpose and completely unexpectedly - I really did make the most of the time I had under 40. However, I focused it mostly on life and living, rather than practicality, self-improvement and career.
5 Reasons you should use a Recruiter for your next job hunt
People ask me from time to time – what is the benefit of working with a recruiter? (A cloaked way of saying, I feel, ‘What is the point of you?’)
I understand the motivation behind this question – and am happy to tackle it here to clarify for anyone who wonders the same, now or in the future.
Pride - a frivolous celebration or still a necessary movement with much more to achieve?
In a time when more and more marginalised communities around the world are moving backwards, further from equality, minorities and the underrepresented/under-respected among us need to shout louder to make our voices heard.
Employee vs Employer? Things I have learned from being my own boss
I set up my business in May 2015 so have been self employed for over 7 years now.
I thought it might be interesting to share some of the journey I/we have been on in that time, in case any of you are contemplating doing the same. Some insight into the things I would never had thought of – that might be useful for you!
People always say starting out on your own is a real journey. And BOY is that the truth.
Bucket List (Things I want to do and see while I still can)
If you have ever read this blog before, you will know our business specialises in helping people make international career moves.
Whether you are looking for a culture change, better weather, a better work-life balance or just to be nearer to friends and family, we can help! (If you work in Mergers & Acquisitions/Deals consulting at least).
I thought it might be useful to work through a few hot spots that we recruit into and advise who can get in and how easy/time consuming it is to get the visa.
How easy is it to emigrate? (Where can I get a visa for?)

Long Live the Queen (Please!)
To set the tone of this piece right up front, I love the Queen. And this Thursday – she will mark 70 years on the throne. She is already the longest reigning monarch the United Kingdom has ever had, and the longest reigning Queen in the world has ever seen. So I thought this week I would write emphatically of my love and adoration for her. Cue gay boy squealing!
Is a Change as good as a Rest?
I just returned my first proper holiday in well over two years.
What scares you the most?
I turn 30 this week. I’ve been terrified of this birthday for……well forever.
