Bored of your Reality?
I love London, my home town. It has everything one could want: Life in abundance - limitless potential experiences, culture / cultures, history and beautiful architecture, arts and entertainment on tap, cuisines from around the world, shopping, big green open spaces – and the opportunity to be true to oneself. Anyone can be whoever they are in London. This has been the case for hundreds of years. It really is the city where everything goes! A vast fusion of people and personalities, from all around the world.
But sometimes in the bleak mid-winter, one can’t help but wonder whether there is something else, something different, maybe even better out there. Would life be better for me if I had sunshine and beaches to play in? Would I prefer a slower pace of life? Would I benefit from trying to live in a different culture?
The answer, despite my passion for London, has to be yes – maybe these things could be life-enhancing!
I lived in Australia for a few years. It was such an eye-opening experience. I found the whole relocation process much easier than I had expected. I settled into Sydney’s sunny climes like a duck to water, and made friends easily, both through work and out and about in town. Weekends on the beach, a warm and welcoming population, year-round sunshine – what is not to love?!
I spent 3-years there and would have loved to have stayed but the Credit Crunch sent me home again. And whilst I love my home city, I will always be wondering what else the world has to offer that I have not tried yet. I would love to live somewhere culturally different to my home – perhaps Hong Kong, Kenya, or maybe Dubai.
Each location we at Global Pathways recruit into offers you something unique – a life experience you would not have had if you had stayed home. A new friend for life – the chance to learn to ski or surf – a cultural awakening – or just somewhere you can be outside more throughout the seasons. (Or less, depending on your persuasion!)
Why not take the chance to learn a language, or be nearer to absent friends and family?
Now the world is opening up, as the pandemic eases a little, maybe it is time for me to think on these topics again. My drivers would be mastering a second language, a warmer climate and just a change of scenery. I am optimistic that the things I love at home will always be here. I can visit the Tower of London again and walk through Hyde Park over towards Buckingham Palace, see a unique show in the West End or update my wardrobe from markets and boutique stores not found anywhere else. But what could I learn somewhere new? Who might I meet? Who might I be?
Starting again gave me the chance to reset – to take stock of who I had been and who I wanted to be. From a personal growth perspective, I had the opportunity of a life time. But – could I have that twice?
How would you enhance your reality, given the opportunity? What one piece of your life would you like to improve?
