From the UK to Tanzania

A Case Study by Global Pathways Recruitment

We caught up with a professional we helped move from the UK to Tanzania, to get their thoughts on their relocation experience.

Why did you decide you wanted to move abroad?

My wife and I had been working in the UK for more than 10 years and therefore we wanted to get a different working experience in another country. We also wanted to have multi-cultural life experience and travel to nearby countries.

How did you find the relocation process?

It was initially scary due to a lack of information but the new employer and the recruitment consultant were really helpful in providing details and referring us to service providers and other people on the ground who were happy to help.

How were the first 3 months in your new home?

The first 3 months was a setting in period, both professionally and personally. Professionally, it involved getting to know my new colleagues, building relationships with the team and getting up to speed with the work. From a personal perspective, it included finding a house, exploring the city and meeting people.

How has the international experience benefited you, personally and professionally?

Personally, my wife and I have been closer and stronger in respect to our relationship.

Professionally, I have had more international work experience and the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the practice and build a specialist team. In addition, I have been provided with more responsibilities, exposure to senior partners in the practice (both in the country and globally) and overseas conferences.

Would you recommend an international move to other professionals? Why?

Yes, because it is such a positive experience. You are introduced to different perspectives, learn more about your own abilities, and meet a diverse range of people.
