Last year, the Legatum Institute (a London-based research institute), released their 11th annual global Prosperity Index. The index ranks the most prosperous countries in the world, not just in regard to money, but also taking into account many other indicators. There are 9 categories that factor into the overall prosperity of a country: economic quality, business environment, governance, personal freedom, social capital, safety and security, education, health and natural environment.

The 2017 Index (released in November) showed that global prosperity is at its highest level since 2007, although there has been significant deterioration in global security and the gap between the most and least prosperous nations continues to widen.
